Bobby Johnson and John Alday Judge 2018 High School District Mock Trial Competition

Bobby Johnson and John Alday Judge 2018 High School District Mock Trial Competition

On January 26, 2018, Bobby and John were honored to serve as evaluators and presiding judges for the 2018 High School District Mock Trial Competition for Cobb County. Several local high schools fielded teams of attorneys and witnesses who tried a case from beginning to end. The high school students conducted every part of the trial as if it were a real jury trial: pretrial motions, opening statements, witness examinations, and closing arguments. The other evaluators and presiding judges included many attorneys from the Cobb County area and several Cobb Superior and State Court judges. This year’s event was Bobby’s 10th year volunteering and John’s 3rd. Over the course of these years, it was a pleasure to see students grow and improve their advocacy and theatrical skills.

Over the course of the day, from the beginning rounds to the finals, it was amazing to see the students argue persuasively, attack witnesses, and deal with unexpected rulings from the bench—mostly from Bobby! Bobby and John can already see people who they know will be trying cases alongside them and against them for the years to come. Congratulations to all the participants, parents, and coaches.
